Sofia is the great heart of Bulgaria, rich in history and yet still young. Not without reason do the residents call their city “ageless”. The long history of Sofia is still visible today in the well-preserved relics and remarkable structures from the times of the Romans, the Ottomans and the Tsars.

Socialist-era housing blocks in the outskirts and the former headquarters of the Bulgarian Communist Party offer reminders of the more recent past of this EU member state

Modern Sofia is a cosmopolitan city, which continues to surprise visitors of all ages. Few large cities have as many trees in their charming neighbourhood streets or parks in their centres as Sofia. Close by lies the Vitosha mountain range, where locals and visitors enjoy relaxing on walks away from the dynamic life of the city.

A leisurely stroll along Vitosha Boulevard with its many boutiques and cafés is very enjoyable. Sofia’s shopping mile advances everyday towards a popular meeting point. Seeing and being seen is the name of the game.

Culture fans also find their fill in Sofia. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral with its gold cupola, the St. George Rotunda and the public baths with active mineral springs: the capital of Bulgaria is full of wonderful sights worth discovering.
