    • Square Nine

      Design hotel
No one in Belgrade was prepared for the Square Nine. The owners commissioned the Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld to build a hotel that would meet his strict ideas of understatement, style and quality. Its façade was to fit in with the historic surroundings of Students’ Square. Square Nine makes its mark with clear lines and superior materials. The interior is highlighted with historical items from the owner’s furniture collection. The pool area is like a meditation centre, while the lobby appeals for its nonchalant elegance.

With its white 1920s façade, the Excelsior has some surprises in store – but only good ones, of course. The rooms in this 3-star establishment on busy Kneza Miloša have recently been renovated and completely refurbished, and now have a fresh and pleasant air. Once host to the likes of Josephine Baker and author Ivo Andric, today the hotel is more suitable for younger travellers.
