Los Angeles

When the sun slowly sinks over the Pacific in the late afternoon and bathes the city in a golden light, that’s when even tourists think it’s safe to venture out into the spotlight.

Los Angeles and the dream factory of Hollywood are synonyms for glamour. The fabulous coastline with the exclusive resorts of Malibu, Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades is the perfect backdrop for the LA lifestyle. Huge film stars and influential producers in shades drive expensive sport cars along the Pacific Coast Highway, while cool teens surf the Pacific. What a life! But LA is multifaceted.

The east side of the city with the trendy quarters of Silver Lake, Echo Park and its historic downtown is completely different. This is where the creative minds (from the film industry, of course) and artists live who, together with renowned museums and galleries, have turned Los Angeles into an internationally important centre for contemporary art. As well as the cool scene, film glamour and luxury, LA also offers its visitors a tremendous range of cultural activities and attractions.

There are lots of interesting and famous museums, galleries and theatres. The County Museum of Art has an impressive selection of collections, and right next door to it are the fascinating La Brea Tar Pits. A spot of shopping on Melrose Avenue, then Venice Beach for some swimming and sunning, and in the evening to Asanebo, one of the most popular sushi restaurants in the city for an unforgettable meal. A perfect day in LA!
