    • Las Canteras beach

      Popular destination
      It is the biggest beach on Las Palmas, and is situated on the eastern side of the strip of ground that links La Isleta island with Gran Canaria. There are all kinds of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops along the kilometre-long beach promenade. It’s perfect for a long walk and enjoying the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. The fine sandy beach is three kilometres long, and a very popular place for swimming and sporting activities.

    • Bandama National Park and volcano

      Sleeping giant
      The volcanic crater is south of Las Palmas in the Bandama National Park. This excursion is a highlight. There are fabulous views of the island from the rim of the crater. The crater itself has a diameter of more than one kilometre, and is completely covered in greenery. A path leads down to the bottom of the crater, along which you will learn much about the mountain world of the Canaries.

    • Castillo de la Luz

      This solid castle has stood at the harbour of «La Isleta» island since 1541, when it served as defence against fearless pirates and conquerors. It came under fire several times, and was also conquered. Today it attracts tourists, who enjoy the unique views of the vast expanse of the ocean and Las Palmas town. The castle also has a café that is surrounded by the most wonderful rose garden Café Castillo de la Luz.

    • Vegueta

      Historic excursion
      A visit to this quarter will transport you back to historic times. Numerous narrow alleyways wind their way around the beautifully preserved houses. You can feel the flair of the Canaries here, among the delightfully picturesque squares. Vegueta has lots of architectural sights including the town hall, the Chapel of San Antonio Abad, Santa Ana Cathedral and the Columbus House.

    • Las Arenas

      Great location
      This shopping centre is on the southern end of Las Canteras beach. The Jardines del Atlantico park and the theatre that is home to the «Alfredo Krauss» Opera Festival are also in the area. There are numerous shops, ranging from fashion to key cutters, on the three floors of the shopping centre, and a large cinema and various food establishments on the first floor. Guests in the café can enjoy the delightful views of the beach from the adjoining terrace.

    • Orca Surf Shop

      For surfers
      Gran Canaria is a popular destination for surfers, windsurfers and kiters. The Orca Surf Shop is near the La Cicer surfing spot on Las Canteras beach. It is widely regarded as the go-to address for all kinds of surfing equipment, and it has a vast range of surfboards, neoprene kit and all the necessary surfing equipment. It also has a repair service and offers surfing courses for beginners.

    • Mercado Central

      A very special experience
      This food market, close to the Plaza de Espana, is the biggest one on the island. It consists of two floors. On the ground floor are mainly meat, fish and groceries, while fruit and vegetables are displayed on the numerous stands on the top floor. It’s loud and bustling on the market, and the offer is simply vast – worth visiting just to experience the atmosphere.

    • La Nina de Colon

      Traditional crafts
      This little souvenir shop is on the east side of Las Palmas. It is in Vegueta one of the oldest parts of the town. With its historic lanes and alleys, it is definitely worth a visit. La Nina de Colon offers handmade pottery, literature, jewellery and miniature ships – in memory of Christopher Columbus, who embarked on his voyages of discovery from Las Palmas.

    • Canarian Museum

      History of the original inhabitants
      It was opened in 1879, and tells the history of the island and its original inhabitants. The museum consists of several exhibition rooms with countless archaeological finds, rock types and reproductions of cave paintings. It also contains a documentation centre with many historical documents and a range of literature about the island. It’s the perfect place to go if you want to know more about Gran Canaria.

    • Casa de Colon

      Christopher Columbus
      Once the Governor’s house, it is now a museum that is dedicated to Christopher Columbus. The explorer is said to have spent time here in 1492 while one of his ships was being made seaworthy in the harbour. There is much to learn in the museum about Christopher Columbus’s travels, but also about the creation and history of Gran Canaria and Las Palmas.

    • Maritime Museum

      Land ho!
      The museum is housed inside the belly of a model of Christopher Columbus’s Santa Maria. The exhibition contains numerous displays as well as a collection of navigational instruments and historic maps. There are marvellous views of the surrounding area from the upper deck of the Santa Maria, and it really does take you back to the age of the great seafarers.
