The world’s oldest industrial city is best known for its football club and the music scene that has produced bands such as Oasis and Chemical Brothers.

And not only does the young and buzzing creative scene make visitors instantly feel at home in the city, but so do the «Mancunians» themselves (as the «natives» are known) thanks to their warm, friendly welcome that instantly wins over visitors.

A microcosm of contrasts unfolds in the smallest space. Just a few hundred metres from the historic suburb of Castlefield are the elegant banking quarter Spinningfields and the exuberant and colourful Gay Village. At Salford Quays, a mixture of futuristic office complexes and residential developments nestles around the canal basin and canals.

Trendy designer and music shops, and countless cafés, bars and concert venues throng the bustling streets of the Northern Quarter artists’ district. Peter, SWISS cabin crew member, says his favourite spot in Manchester is the Sculpture Hall for afternoon tea or an evening cocktail.
