      Café Karin is the favourite of many Frankfurters. They all meet here – from slightly alternative to trendy and chic. It’s cosy sitting at the wooden tables, and the menu and wine list are excellent. The highlight is the breakfast menu. «Struwelpeter», «Westend» and «Bockenheim» are the names of the various brunches – and they’re all delicious. Much appreciated by night owls: breakfast is served until 6 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Which brings us neatly back to aperitif time.

      Top classic
      Café Wacker is probably one of the loveliest coffee houses in Frankfurt. It is to be found in a listed building. Locals also like to meet here for a chat – especially on Saturdays, on market day. And especially if they can still sit outside. If you’d rather drink your coffee at home, you can buy the beans at Kornmarkt 9 in the shop that belongs to the café. The building has been here since 1914 – and is quite rightly a top classic of all the cafés.

      Fancy something sweet? Then this is the place for you. Iimori Pâtisserie is perfect for a sweet snack. Feast your eyes on the displays, where you will see the finest cakes, gateaux and tarts.       Club legend
      The Batschkapp, called the «Kapp», is a classic in Frankfurt’s nightlife. Concerts, exhibitions, events, readings, parties, theatre – it’s all here. The alternative cultural centre was co-founded in the 70s by former Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer. To this day, music styles and bands that aren’t usually found on the charts are on the programme of its club evenings.

      This club is legendary, and a must for fans of electronic music from all over the world. Named after the famous blues musician Robert Johnson, it is known for playing deluxe house and techno. There are so many top DJs that they are no longer announced separately in the programme. The Robert Johnson is Frankfurt’s neighbouring city of Offenbach (10 minutes by underground or taxi), and it’s well worth making the trip.

      A must for jazz fans
      For over 45 years, the Jazzkeller Frankfurt has been a firm part of the metropolis’s nightlife, and an institution that is also well-known outside this country. Located in an arched vault, it soon gets full and loud here. The Keller is the first port of call for jazz fans when they come to Frankfurt. Incidentally, in 1952, the year it first opened, none other than Louis Armstrong himself played here, and it is said that Frank Sinatra has also been here.
