Nobody knows the SWISS destinations better than our staff. A restaurant that is not listed in every travel guide, an original bar, a charming café, or great tours with spectacular lookout points. Let our travel professionals inspire you with their tips.

The Café Select presents American Swiss Food. On the menu you'll find «Züri Gschnätzlets» or cheese dishes, in other words typically Swiss dishes. The ambience is also special: There are Rössli and Rivella advertising posters hanging on the wall, and a PTT mailbox decorates the facade. It's a destination for a colourful mix of celebrities, shoppers and homesick Swiss. The place belongs to the Swiss DJ and music producer Oli Stumm.

The large market in Chelsea sells everything that a gourmet could ever wish for. It's an absolute must for me every time I go to NYC. Strolling through the market when I'm hungry is a wonderful highlight. Whether you fancy good breads (rare in the USA) from Amy's Bread, fresh lobster from Lobster Place, and Mexican tacos from Los Tacos – you're really spoilt for choice here. Besides food, there's some great shopping to be had at Artists & Fleas Market. This is where independent artists sell their products, including photographs, pictures, jewellery and second-hand fashion – originality prevails! Very cool!

When hunger pangs set in after a tiring day's shopping or sightseeing, then Carmine's – the famous Italian close to Times Square – is definitely the place to go. What makes this place special is each portion serves four. It's important to reach a consensus about what to order, because one starter and main are more than enough to fill up four hungry people round the table. My recommendation: try the mixed hot antipasti with plenty of Italian specialities, washed down with a Perroni!

This restaurant serves up perfect steaks. I can really recommend the Porterhouse steak for two or three to share, washed down by a full-bodied red wine. And don't forget to order a portion of creamed spinach on the side! This isn't the cheapest of restaurants, but the first-class service and quality of food certainly justify the price. There are four branches of Wolfgang's Steakhouse in New York.

Little Chinatown may be renowned for its spring rolls, but it is also a place to find Vietnamese cuisine. Both the food and the atmosphere are extremely authentic. You can tuck in to cheap phở here, as well as many other specialities, such as bánh cuốn and nem rán.

I'm often in New York. My absolute favourite place for breakfast is the Pain Quotidien. A Belgian chain that serves fantastic bread, delicious bio muesli, lovely hot Schoggi and much more besides. It also does fine soups and sandwiches for lunch. There are several branches in New York. One is right next to Bryant Park.

Do you fancy dinner in the Upper West Side? If so, this restaurant is bound to become one of your favourites. The restaurant's philosophy involves using only natural, unprocessed ingredients. Alongside international specialities, there is also a vegan menu. The backdrop of the old brick walls and dimmed lighting lends the restaurant a wonderfully romantic charm. The waiting staff are very friendly, helpful and motivated. The restaurant is priced in the middle bracket. If you don't fancy anything to eat, you can simply enjoy a drink at the bar. Definitely well worth a visit.

As I was looking for a good Italian restaurant, I ended up in the Via della Pace. This cool restaurant in East Village serves up the most delicious home-made pasta and pizzas. The menu is modest but the food really out of this world. The small dining room creates an intimate atmosphere in the restaurant and makes a welcome change to the large, loud restaurants frequently found in New York.

There are several branches of Blue Ribbon Sushi in New York. Patience is the name of the game in the flagship store, as diners can wait up to 2 hours for their sushi. However, it's well worth the wait – it's simply the best in the city. The quality here is on a par with sushi in Japan. You can watch the master sushi chefs go about their work in this cosy restaurant.

The Chinatown Ice Cream Factory probably makes the best ice cream in the city. They offer the classics, of course, but you can also get unusual flavours like ginger, black sesame, green tea, zen butter, avocado and wasabi. And fans who just can't get enough can buy a 50-litre bucket of ice cream to take away. The ice cream parlour is a hidden from the street – just don’t confuse it for the nearby Häagen-Dazs!

A New York lady recommended this restaurant to me. It's the perfect restaurant for those who love fish and seafood. The dishes taste just as good as they look! The waiting staff are friendly and also pleased to offer helpful advice to diners who are less clued up on seafood.

Attention all FroYo fans: The 16 Handles in Manhattan is the place to go for fantastic frozen yoghurts with heavenly toppings. My two favourites are Pomegranate Raspberry Sorbet and Berry Medley Sorbet. Delicious!
