Ceasarea is well worth a visit. It’s about 45 minutes from Tel Aviv. It was once a Roman port, and later became a fortress of the crusaders, with a Roman theatre and ruins from the times of the crusaders.

Hotel Gilgal is excellent value for money. The rooms are clean, and it serves a fabulous breakfast on the roof terraces with views of the sea. I always stay there when I go to Tel Aviv.

Samy David was the first person I got to know personally in Tel Aviv. He is an award-winning Israeli artist, and creates the most fabulous ceramics I have ever seen. Many of them are decorated with 14-carat gold. His achievements include the crockery used in First Class on EL AL Israel Airlines, and I personally think he is an absolute genius. Every single one of his creations is individual, and therefore also unique.

This bakery has absolute cult status. It first opened in 1879, is open 24 hours a day and serves burekas, pitta bread and other freshly baked goods around the clock. Simply a must! Go there and enjoy.

If you’re going shop in Tel Aviv, you really shouldn’t miss Carmel Market. It’s a street in the middle of the city. And if you’re there, be sure to try pomegranate juice and fresh dates. Plus you’ll be able to buy all the souvenirs you can carry.

The Onza is a tiny but delightful establishment that opened early in 2014. It's a good idea to order several small dishes. They range from fresh ciabatta and seafood to chocolate mousse with sea salt and a dash of olive oil. It also serves a wide range of lovely cocktails - and happily not just the classics, but also many with names and in combinations that were absolutely new to me. The restaurant is in a charming location in the old town.
