I highly recommend driving out from Palermo to San Vito lo Capo. It's a charming village and seaside resort with wonderful sandy beaches and magnificent turquoise water.

I recommend taking a trip out from Palermo to visit the Piscina di Venere, which is roughly a two-hour drive away from the city. This is a hidden swimming retreat that can only be reached on foot – a wonderful creek comprising a number of separate natural pools. Even the path to get there – through olive groves and idyllic sand dunes – is a highlight in itself. The excursion is also suitable for families with children. There is a 20-minute walk from the Capo Milazzo car park. Don't forget your sunscreen!

The Aegadian islands (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo) off the coast of Trapani are well worth a visit, even for a day trip. To get there from Palermo, drive to Trapani (about one hour away) and take the 20-minute ferry crossing to Favignana or Levanzo. This is an idyllic place for those seeking tranquillity.
