General Information
Brussels invites with tradition and modern

Get your SWISS flight from Dubai to Brussels (BRU) in Belgium and discover an easy-going city instead of a coldhearted center of bureaucracy. Brussels is the center of the European Union and also the capital of Belgium.

The King of Belgium, Phillipe, resides in a beautiful palace inside the city. During the 15th and 16th century Brussels was the center of a thriving region most famous for its high-quality textiles. With the riches came the arts and culture that we know as the period of the Flemish Masters: Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Breughel, Vermeer, Rembrandt, the list is endless. The riches of the period can still be admired in Brussels Grand-Place with its Gothic town hall.

All around this central square of Brussels are great facades of old guild houses, where artisans and merchants convened to conduct the city's business. The central Cathedral St. Michael and St. Gudula, which was built during a 200-year period, is also one of the architectural highlights of Brussels.

Brussels secret emblem and arguably most well-known sight is Manneken Pis, a statute of a little boy having fun. The iconic statute is situated on the corner of Rue de l’Etuve/Stoofstraat and Rue des Grands Carmes/ Lievevrouwbroerstraat. It has been mentioned for the first time in 1450 and the citizens of Brussels feel that the easy-going, yet innocent fun it embodies defines the character of the city quite nicely. Additionally, the 100-meter high Atomium, built in 1958 for the world expo, is a structure showing an iron atom enlarged by the factor of 165 Billion. It is another iconic building that Brussels is known for worldwide.

The Belgians' indulgence in fine food and drink is something to enjoy while you are in town. Over 1800 restaurants, cafes, bistros and street food vendors make Brussels a foodies' paradise. The best Pommes Frites, Belgium potato chips, are typically sold by street vendors together with mussels, which is the Belgian version of British Fish'n'Chips. Try the Lapin à la Gueuze in one of the many restaurants, a rabbit stewed in local beer.

Over 500 different kinds of beer are known in Belgium, some very strong, some flavored with cherry and other fruit. Don’t leave the city without a big box of the finest chocolates, as Brussels is considered the capital of chocolatiers. Culture, history and culinary delights are only some of the reasons to pay Brussels a visit.
