General Information
The sunny, warm welcome of Malaga

Málaga in southern Spain is a great place to go with SWISS because we will bring you there with a comfortable flight from Dubai. Situated in perfect climate and beautiful coastal landscape, Málaga is the hidden gem on the Costa del Sol.

The city is one of the oldest in Spain, dating back to the 8th century B.C. when it was founded as a colony of Carthage. In its ensuing history, Málaga saw many rulers come and go: The Romans took over until their empire collapsed, Vandals, Goths, and Byzantine armies struggled for control. When the Moors took the city in 711, they kept it as part of the Granada Caliphate until the end of the 15th century. When you go sightseeing today, it is mostly their unique architecture that makes the city so beautiful.

Most impressive is the Alcazaba, the fortress towering over the city, which doubles as a palace with beautiful gardens and elegant architecture. It was later connected by walled walkway to a second fortress further up the hill, the Castillo de Gibralfaro. There are also ruins of a Roman amphitheater at the foot of the fortress.

Pablo Picasso, the famous artist, was born in Málaga and the city has honored him with a beautiful museum dedicated to his art and life. His house of birth in Plaza Merced is turned into a museum as well. Another museum, the Museo Carmen Thyssen, specializes in art from the 19th century.

If you enjoy the Andalusian tradition of flamenco, the music and dance of southern Spain, go to the Museo de Arte Flamenco. After much sightseeing and art appreciation, it is time for a day on the beach, which you will find in abundance in and around Málaga. If you want to play a round of golf, you are lucky: there is a high concentration of golf courses around the city, hence the nickname “Costa del Golf”.

When Málaga became a fashionable resort in the 19th century for wealthy Europeans, the city created a beautiful park, the Calle Alameda. It is famous for its leading botanical collection of plants from all over the world. In the evening, eat the typical “pescaito frito”, which is a collection of small fried fish like sardines and anchovies and is best accompanied by a glass of local wine. Enjoy the atmosphere of relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle and book your SWISS flight to Málaga right away.
