A free-spirited city with reminders of the past

Enjoy your SWISS flight to Berlin (TXL) and prepare yourself for a great time in the capital of Germany, known for its rich history and wild party scene. Whether its art, shopping, history or party that you are looking for, Berlin is a treasure trove for the entertainment of your choice.

Berlin is quite flat, so it's easy to explore the city on one of the thousands rental bikes. The most famous sights are in Berlin-Mitte, but it is really worth it to visit other parts of the city. Start with a walk across the Gendarmenmarkt with the French Dome, dedicated to French protestant refugees in the 17th century.

The iconic Alexanderplatz with the TV Tower is a hangout for the young, the nearby Prenzlauer Berg quarter is the hipster heaven with great cafès and vegan restaurants. The most famous landmark of Berlin, the Brandenburger Tor, is only a short walk away from the Reichstag, Germany's parliament with the big glass dome, symbolizing transparency of the political process.

How about meeting the Egyptian queen Nefertiti face to face? Her famous bust is on display in the Museum Island. Next to the Queen is the original Gate of Babylon, the blue-tiled Ishtar Gate, in the Pergamon museum.

Berlin has a system of rivers and channels that allows to explore the city by boat or kayak, which gives you an interesting new perspective of the Berlin backwaters. Take a historic walk along the Berlin Wall and learn about its history at the former Checkpoint Charly. Try the typical Berlin street food, curry wurst and döner. Near the Checkpoint Charly Museum is the unique Curry wurst museum, where the history of this 1950s invention and its nationwide adoption is told. Döner was invented by Turkish immigrants in Berlin and is a great example for cultural crossover food.

The shopping enthusiast can find everything from luxurious shopping malls and outlets of famous fashion brands to thousands of hip designer shops, second hand boutiques and flea markets. For a classy night out, see the famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. At the Opera "Unter den Linden" you would get treated to a world-class performance of your favorite opera.

If you crave partying, dancing and drinking all night long, you've come to the right city. Berlin's legendary nightlife is unrivaled, from big dance halls with famous DJs to living-room sized live clubs with local artists. Whatever your idea of a great time is, Berlin will have it all.
