Marrakech, historically one of the largest cities in the Islamic world, has many impressive buildings and monuments to see: the 800-year-old Koutoubiya Mosque, the Kasbah (a citadel with the residence of the Caliphs), the massive city walls and the Saadian tombs. The medina with its souks and narrow streets is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Djemaa el-Fna, is a huge public square that is flooded with colourful, noisy activities all day long and into the night: Cooking meat on hundreds of grills, the cymbal-like sound of water merchants beating up cups, acrobats forming human pyramids, snake charmers and artisans.
