The historic artery of London is the river Thames. Many of the best sites are around the river. Take a boat ride along the Thames, get great views of the city from the Shard or the London Eye, or climb up Tower Bridge, London has something for everyone.
The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben are landmarks known to people all around the world. Almost as recognizable is the floating Gothic structure of the Tower Bridge. Just downstream is the Tower of London – at various times a fortress, a prison and a menagerie. On the other side of the river is the London Eye. Its slowly rotating capsules offer a great view of the city. The Tate Modern Gallery is nearby – a world-class collection of modern art housed in an old power station. From there the millennium foot bridge crosses the Thames to St Paul’s Cathedral.
