São Paulo may be a huge metropolis, but each of its neighbourhoods has its own character and different nightlife possibilities. Vila Madalena is bohemian – there are unique street cafés and music venues. Liberdade is São Paulo’s little Tokyo – ideal for karaoke bars. Pinheiros and Vila Madalena are all about stylish restaurants and clubs.
São Paulo celebrates carnival on a grand scale. The festivities are led by the samba schools – large groups representing a neighbourhood. They spend a whole year making costumes, then, on the Friday and Saturday before Lent, they compete in the Anhembi Sambadrome. Their performances until 5 o'clock in the morning.
