You'll hear more live music in Dublin than in almost any other city. Take a walk along Grafton Street, where many of the city's street musicians perform. The standard is extremely high, and sometimes the performers are amazingly young.
The next best place to listen to live music is Dublin's pubs, many of which have informal folk sessions open to all visitors. There's a word in the Irish language, "craic." You will hear it often in Dublin, but it is not easy to translate. It describes an atmosphere of conviviality when the conversation flows and you don't want the evening to end. This is the atmosphere you find in a good Dublin pub. Try it out.
