Like many port cities, Hamburg has a reputation for a distinctive nightlife. The famous Reeperbahn now has many mainstream bars and clubs and hosts a music festival in September. Near the Reeperbahn there is another legend of Hamburg's entertainment scene, the Grünspan-Disco. Founded in 1968, this atmospheric old venue is now home to live gigs.
Hamburg is a busy city when it's not partying. It not only has the largest port in Germany, but also a flourishing new media industry with a focus on HafenCity. It is an old harbour district that is gradually being redesigned. It includes a large area of 19th century warehouses.
