Manchester was the cradle of the British Industrial Revolution. Its mills supplied cotton goods all over the world. Now the mill buildings have all been converted into apartments, and the city is better known for its media industry - Manchester has been home to Granada Television since 1956, and the bustling North Quarter is a marketing and media centre.
The trains from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly station, in the centre, take only 20 minutes. The relatively compact city centre is within walking distance. If you are travelling to a Manchester United game, the easiest way to get there is by train from Manchester Piccadilly to Old Trafford Station.
