From Los Angeles to Barcelona: Important information to know before you travel

  • Best time to travel: Situated directly on the Mediterranean coast, summers in Barcelona are not as stiflingly hot as other Spanish cities. Warm winter days are common and the spring and autumn months also provide comfortable temperatures. Even during rainy days, Barcelona’s many museums and galleries always give you things to do.
  • Traveling from the airport to the city center: Getting from Barcelona’s airport to the city center is easy. The Aerobus runs every 5-10 minutes (during fixed operating hours) and takes you to the city center in around 30 minutes. You can take this bus from outside Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
  • Getting around: Barcelona has an extensive subway network that can take you quickly and easily around the city. During the week, trains run until 2 am, with a 24-hour service running during the weekend. It’s also possible to explore Barcelona by foot, especially in the narrow streets of the old town.

Barcelona’s top sites and attractions

Catalonia’s capital is chock-full of both things to do and things to see. It combines Mediterranean relaxation with breathtaking architecture.

  • Basílica de la Sagrada Família
  • La Rambla
  • Park Güell

It’s almost impossible to talk about Barcelona without mentioning the infamous Basílica de la Sagrada Família. The inspiration for this unique building came from Spanish/Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. Work began on the structure back in 1882 and due to sheer complexity of its design, is still under construction today. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this unique, Gothic church is a must-see attraction. For a bird’s-eye view, take an elevator to the top of one of the many spires to get an incredible glimpse across the city. It’s best to book tickets for this in advance to avoid any long queues.

La Rambla is probably the hottest spot for Barcelona’s tourists. The 0.75 mile, tree-lined street is restricted to pedestrians only and is a hotspot for bars, cafés, shops and restaurants. The atmosphere up and down the street is constantly buzzing. To take a break from the crowds, explore some of the quieter spots in one of the side streets from time to time.

One of the most stunning public parks in the world, Park Güell is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and the brainchild of Antoni Gaudi. The majority of the park is free to enter and it provides fantastic views over the city, stretching to the beach and the Mediterranean Sea.

These, and many other attractions, await you after your flight from LAX to Barcelona.
