Zurich’s restaurants: A real treat for foodies

After a long day sightseeing, exploring the hills and mountains, marveling at the glorious stained-glass windows of historic churches, it might be time for some R&R. When it comes to great eating, nightlife and entertainment, Zurich will not disappoint.

One signature meal that even shares the cities name: “Zürcher Geschnetzeltes”, a veal dish containing lots of cream and mushrooms. The “Zürcher Zouftschriibertopf”, which loosely translates as “guild writer’s stew” is another very hearty dish, and consists of beef, pork and veal filets, bacon, liver and kidney together with carrots, peas and potatoes. The more famous representatives of Zurich’s cuisine are Raclette, a special cheese that is molten and eaten with potatoes and onions, and of course the notorious cheese fondue, where molten cheese with wine is mopped up with pieces of bread.

Zurich has lots of exquisite options to choose from if you have a sweet tooth: Honold and Confiserie Sprüngli are a must for chocolate lovers looking for a fix of some of the nations finest chocolate. Try the Luxemburgerli, a small macron that comes in eight different flavors.

Shopping in Zurich

For an upmarket shopping experience, we recommend Grieder – a department store housed in a impressive building on the Bahnhofstrasse. It offers many of the world’s most coveted luxury brands, homeware, a beauty salon and the Greiderbar, for an all-day lunch.

Visit Sihlcity – a bustling and vibrant shopping mall with an expansive assortment ranging from clothing to homeware and household items and last but not least souvenirs. This is a great place to shop for souvenirs for your friends and family. If luxurious watches or jewelry are not your thing, maybe consider an original Swiss army knife.
