Flights Wrocław

Wrocław, undiscovered pearl of Poland

Wrocław is the fourth biggest town of Poland and the capital of Lower Silesia. It is also said to be at least as beautiful and magnificent as its big sister Krakow. Find out if that is true when your SWISS flight touches down in Wrocław.

The colorful facades of the old houses and guildhalls encircling the central Market place make a cheerful atmosphere while paying respect to history. The citizens call this circle The Ring (Rynek), which wraps around one of the biggest market squares in Europe. As the center of the historic Old Town this is a great starting point to explore the several parts of Wrocław.

The most famous landmark is right on Market Square: the Gothic Old Town Hall with the famous astronomical clock from 1580. In the far-reaching cellars of the town hall you can still have a great meal in the „Schweidnitzer Keller“, a restaurant that is operating continuously since 1275. The hearty Polish cuisine together with a great beer from one of the many small and medium-sized breweries will give you the energy to explore the city.

It is a short but beautiful walk from Market Square to the University Quarter, through quaint little alleys and over little canals. Wrocław is built on 12 Islands that have hundreds of bigger and smaller bridges over the River Oder, several smaller rivers and man-made canals. That is why Wrocław is often called the Venice of the East.

The University Quarter is the center of local nightlife, but the 35.000 students of the University have declared other parts of town as fit for party as well. The Aula Leopoldina, a baroque masterpiece of the Austrian Habsburg rulers in the early 18th century, is one of the most impressive rooms in the University. Equally luxurious is the festive hall Oratorium Marianum. Much older is the mighty cathedral on the Cathedral Island, dating back to 1241.

The Botanical Garden right next to the cathedral offers a space for peace and contemplation in the middle of the city. Get a new perspective and take a boat tour over the river and canals of Wrocław. You may find many more landmarks and sights you want to explore during your stay here. Enjoy your time in Wrocław and return home comfortably with SWISS flights.
