At the heart of the airport – a look behind the scenes with Duty Station Manager Ranjit

The procedures at the airport Zurich are clearly structured and well-rehearsed. But when unusual situations arise, a clear overview and decisive action are required. This is where the Duty Station Manager (DSM) comes into play: As the highest operational authority on site the Lufthansa Group DSM takes responsibility and ensures smooth operations in cooperation with internal and external interfaces.

"Above the wing" in action: On the road with Duty Station Manager Ranjit

Countless processes run simultaneously every day at Zurich Airport – from the arrival of guests to check-in and boarding. To ensure that this complex interaction runs smoothly, a central interface is needed: the Duty Station Manager (DSM). As the shift manager responsible for SWISS, he coordinates operations above the wing, i.e. in the terminal area, for all processes relating to our passengers. He is a key figure in the company.

Decision-maker in exceptional situations

DSMs are indispensable all year round – especially when things don't go according to plan. In the event of delays, technical problems or high passenger volumes, they are the highest operational authority. In these situations, they make the final decisions and ensure that operations remain stable and that cooperation with service partners, Zurich Airport and the authorities runs smoothly.

In the latest video, we accompany Duty Station Manager Ranjit on his shift, take a look behind the scenes, and experience firsthand how varied the everyday life of a DSM at Zurich Airport is.
