“Tej.”
That’s how people in the Poznań region often get someone’s attention, similar to saying “Hey” or “Listen.” For Tomasz, this word is inseparably tied to his childhood.
He grew up in Murowana Goślina, a small town north of Poznań. The area is defined by the expansive forest landscape of Puszcza Zielonka, a natural region of meadows, lakes, and dense woods. In summer, children spend much of their time outdoors, often by the water.
It was there that five-year-old Tomasz met Bruno. They spent their afternoons at the lake, swimming, playing, and watching the sky whenever a plane passed overhead. Then Bruno moved to Scotland with his family, and the two friends went their separate ways. Yet their paths were destined to cross again.
Dreaming of the Swiss mountains
After finishing school, Tomasz studied at the Technical University of Poznań. He had long been fascinated by technology, but traveling excited him just as much. His mother, Jola, often traveled and brought back stories from Singapore, India, Nepal, and Thailand. These tales opened a window to the world for Tomasz.
During his studies, he began exploring Switzerland more deeply. He read about engineering and precision, learned German with Duolingo, and explored Swiss valleys and mountain passes on Google Maps. “I want to live there,” he thought.
Moving to Switzerland was a bold step. Tomasz knew no one there. Still, he felt at home from the very beginning. For this aviation enthusiast, it soon became clear where his path would lead. He applied at SWISS.
“In Poland, we Poznanians are considered efficient and hardworking. That fits well with Switzerland.”
Cabin Inspector at SWISS and born in Poznań
A friendship reunited
Tomasz began as a Cabin Engineer in Line Maintenance, focusing on the cabin and passenger areas of the aircraft, as well as coordination with the on-duty crews.
During the day, the planes arrive at Zürich Airport and undergo inspections before returning to service. Tomasz quickly got up to speed, analyzing technical issues independently, finding solutions, and making decisions.
One day, his childhood friend Bruno visited him in Switzerland. Tomasz showed him his new world: the nature, Zürich, and, of course, the airport. Bruno was immediately captivated, applied to SWISS, and was hired.
Soon, the two childhood friends stood side by side again—not by a lake in Poland, but at Zürich Airport, both working in Line Maintenance nearly twenty years after their shared childhood.
A life dedicated to aviation
Since November 2025, Tomasz has worked as a Cabin Inspector. In this role, he inspects the interior of aircraft cabins, checking seats, panels, and technical details. He collaborates closely with mechanics, crews, engineers, and planners to ensure every plane meets SWISS’s high standards of passenger safety and comfort.
Even in his private life, aviation plays a central role. In 2025, Tomasz flew 56 times, covering over 117,000 flight kilometers. He tracks every route meticulously and, whenever possible, prefers a window seat.
Even as a passenger, he can’t switch off his professional eye. If technical support is needed, he’s often the first to assist—like the time a passenger lost a phone in a Business Class seat.
Two homelands, one connection
With the new direct route between Zürich and Poznań, Tomasz’s personal journey now becomes part of the SWISS network. It makes it easier for him to visit his family, friends, and hometown.
Wrocław, another SWISS destination, also remains important. He travels there frequently to see his father, Wojciech, and his girlfriend, Agata. For Tomasz, flying connects not just places, but the people who shape his life.
The new connection to Poznań thus becomes a bridge between his two worlds—and perhaps a reminder each time he flies of how far life can take you when you follow your dreams.
Tomasz’s tips for visiting Poznań:
Old Market Square (Stary Rynek)
One of Poland’s most beautiful squares, lined with colorful townhouses, cafés, and restaurants.
The famous Town Hall goats
Every day at noon, two mechanical goats butt heads atop the Town Hall tower—a beloved city tradition.
Cathedral Island (Ostrów Tumski)
The historic heart of Poland. The country’s first rulers are buried in Poznań Cathedral.
Malta Lake (Jezioro Maltańskie)
A popular recreational area with walking paths, cycling routes, and water sports. The lakeside spot Ala ma Wino offers a special selection of local and Polish wines.
Imperial Castle (Zamek Cesarski)
An imposing early 20th-century castle, now a cultural center with exhibitions and events.
Stary Browar
A former brewery turned one of Europe’s most beautiful shopping and arts centers.
Discover Polish cuisine
Restaurants around the Old Market serve classics like pierogi and the famous Poznań St. Martin’s croissants.
Day trip to Gniezno
For anyone interested in the origins of the Polish state, Gniezno—the first capital of Poland—is historically significant.
Murowana Goślina in summer
Tomasz’s hometown is worth visiting too. The Dzieje Park hosts impressive historical open-air performances in summer, including the night spectacle Orzeł i Krzyż, bringing centuries of Polish history to life.
Starting March 29, SWISS will fly from Zürich to Poznań three times a week—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays—during the summer schedule.
