Worldwide novelty

SWISS has placed an order for 30 C Series aircraft of types CS100 and CS300 with Bombardier. Thanks to the latest technology in engines, systems and materials, the C series is currently considered the most innovative aircraft. It is being deployed on European routes, and is mainly replacing the Avro RJ100.

Reception in Zurich

1 July 2016 was the big day: Peter Koch gently landed the new CS100 on the tarmac at Zurich Airport in front of a delighted audience. For many, it was a highly emotional experience that they had been waiting for for a long time. And so the first chapter in the history of an aircraft was written. Every one of the future pilots and flight attendants, the engineers and designers at Bombardier, and all the other involved parties all have their own stories to tell.

Aircraft baptism

The first of the new "Whisperjets" was named "Kanton Zürich" on 6 July 2016 in the presence of Federal Councillor Carmen Walker Späh and the well-known Swiss rapper Bligg. The SWISS C Series was first introduced to the members of the press, local politicians, officials and business partners before taking off for a flight around the Swiss Alps.

Maiden flight to Paris

On 15 July 2016, the C Series took off on its first commercial scheduled flight to Paris. The delighted audience celebrated the occasion appropriately at Zurich Airport. Also present was Dominique Rinderknecht, Miss Switzerland 2013, who, along with SWISS Chief Commercial Officer Markus Binkert, performed the official ribbon-cutting ceremony and bade the fully booked CS100 farewell on her maiden flight to Paris.

“I am extremely proud that we are the first airline in the world to put this totally newly-developed aircraft into service.”

Markus Binkert, Chief Commercial Officer SWISS
