Refunds

Your comfort on board is our top priority. That’s why we strive to offer you your preferred seat whenever possible. For operational reasons, however, it may be necessary to change your seat within the same seat category (e.g. extra legroom).

Your advance seat reservation guarantees you a seat in the seat category you have selected, but not a specific seat number (e.g. 3A). If you need to be assigned a seat outside your reserved seat category, you are entitled to a refund of the fee.

We have put together a list of frequently asked questions below to help you find the answers you are looking for.

You are entitled to a refund of your seat reservation fee if:

  • we need to reassign you a seat outside your reserved seat category for operational reasons (e.g. aircraft change);
  • if an unforeseen interruption to your flight results in you having to be rebooked onto another flight on which no equivalent seat is available;
  • your flight is cancelled by the airline;
  • you have purchased an upgrade to a higher travel class and had previously purchased an advance seat reservation or
  • the fare conditions allow it.

As a general rule, the refund is made to the payment method used for booking (e.g. credit card). If the refund is made automatically, you will receive a corresponding confirmation email. The airline with whom you booked is responsible for the refund. If you booked via a third party (e.g. a travel agency), please contact them directly.

Please note that advance seat reservations cannot be refunded at the airport or on board.

Your confirmed advance seat reservation guarantees you a seat in the same seat category, but not, however, a specific seat number (e.g. 3A).

Advance seat reservations cannot be reimbursed if you:

  • cancel your flight;
  • receive an upgrade from SWISS as a gesture of goodwill or for operational reasons;
  • you change your seat and the new seat is cheaper or free of charge;
  • you do not meet the conditions for a seat in an emergency exit row or
  • you rebook, but no equivalent seats are available on your new flights.

Please note that if you only use part of your ticket, e.g. only BUD–FRA instead of BUD–FRA–NYC, the advance seat reservation is non-refundable.

If you decide to cancel your flight, it is not possible to refund seats reserved in advance.

If your flight is completely cancelled or you are rebooked to another flight on which no equivalent seat is available in your seat category (e.g. extra legroom), you are entitled to a refund of your seat reservation fee.

If you are rebooked to another flight on which an equivalent seat is available in your seat category (e.g. extra legroom), your original advance seat reservation remains valid and no refund is required.

In the event of a refund, your seat reservation fee will be automatically reimbursed to your original payment method (e.g. credit card).

You can complete or change an advance seat reservation via SWISS even if you purchased your ticket through a third party (e.g. a travel agency). Simply visit our website, and enter your details in the Amend booking section. You can then make an advance seat reservation for the displayed flights in your booking.
