Bremen Tourismus

The rays of the midday sun glisten in the windows of the richly decorated Renaissance town hall, the mighty Roland watches over the people at its feet as the Statue of Liberty, and the Town Musicians figures next to the town hall tell of fairytale journeys: Tourists and locals alike enjoy soaking up this atmosphere while enjoying their coffee under parasols on the market square.

1,200 years of tradition and cosmopolitanism characterise Bremen, the Hanseatic city on the Weser. The old trading city with its historic centre around the market square exudes the flair of a young metropolis. And yet anyone who sets off on a journey through time with open eyes will find witnesses to its long history and plenty of exciting stories. The magnificent town hall in the Weser Renaissance style and the venerable figure of Roland on the historic market square remain unmistakable. They are protected by UNESCO as a unique World Heritage Site, but the Schnoor - Bremen's oldest city district -, the unusual architecture of the traditional Böttcherstraße and Bremen Cathedral are also unrivalled. And of course there are the world-famous figures of the Bremen Town Musicians from Grimm's fairy tales. Whether theatre or outdoor concerts, maritime or cultural festivals, street circus or sport: anyone visiting the Hanseatic city of Bremen in summer will certainly not be bored.

The donkey, dog, cat and cockerel are as much a part of Bremen as the Weser. It is easily recognisable by the numerous people waiting in turn to be allowed to embrace the donkey's front legs. After all, this is supposed to bring good luck! From May to October, the four fairytale characters tell their story live at the Town Musicians' Play on the Domshof. In 2025, the fun and free musical will be supplemented by a guided tour of the Town Musicians to mark the 50th anniversary of the German Fairy Tale Route.
