A new location was finally identified, but it was 20 km away, in the sea near Lantau Island. The airport was constructed on 1,255 hectares of reclaimed land in an incredible 7 years. It also required a vast amount of transport infrastructure. When you travel to Hong Kong Island use either the dedicated airport rail link or the brand new North Lantau Highway and bridges.
